If only to mourn the fact that we missed the boat…

It was confirmed today that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged, with the highly-anticipated news confirmed by the Prince of Wales this morning in a brief statement issued by Clarence House.

“His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince harry to Ms Meghan Markle,”  the statement read.

Kensington Palace also went on to comment, releasing details of what’s to come. “The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details will be announced in due course,” read a Twitter statement.

The statement continued: “His Royal Highness and Ms Markle became engaged earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed her Majesty the Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms Markle’s parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace.”

With their wedding fast-approaching (it’s literally months away), people are now speculating about the details of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

Who will Harry choose as his best man? Who will Meghan select as her Maid of honour? Will Meghan choose an English or a Canadian designer to create her dress? And can we expect any Hollywood royalty in attendance?

The main question on everyone’s lips however, is whether we will get a day off work to honour the nuptials (or mourn the fact that we missed the boat to marry the 33-year-old prince).

The answer, unfortunately, looks like a no, with royal insiders revealing that Prince Harry isn’t likely to go for an all-out Westminster Abbey wedding, meaning there won’t be a public holiday.

The notoriously private Prince has already expressed his annoyance at the press intrusion into the life of his girlfriend – and given the choice, he’d probably elope to an off-grid Pacific Island with close family and friends. The rumour is therefore that he will be bypassing a televised Westminster ceremony and opting for a more intimate gathering.

While we’re sure to see the photos from Meghan Markle’s Instagram, it does look like a day off isn’t on the cards.
