Jacquemus’s love letter to feminity via kaftans and second skin knits is already the best collection from Paris Fashion Week and it’s only day one…

After months of rumors over whether Simone Porte aka Jacquemus would be skipping down the Paris Fashion Week schedule as Creative Director of Celine have been put to bed by Hedi Slimane, he was still crowned as Paris’ ultimate French Fancy last night.

Showcasing his autumn/winter 2018 Jacquemus showed that clothes speak louder than words. Think a series of long flowing lust worthy gowns fit for a holiday goer riffling through the souks in Morocco back in the 1970 – delicious and spicy in equal measures.

Jacquemus has made a name for himself for straight-talking clothes that are inventive without being ostentatious – his lady is quiet with her wealth. His opening look, a floor sweeping silk long sleeved maxi dress with a plunging neckline, was also subtly sexy in equal measures. The subtleness made way for more overt sexuality however with second skin knits so sheer the nips were very much freed before tightening back up with asymmetric khaki coats that put the badass into businesswoman.

It’s no surprise someone as charming and indeed as sexy as himself, Simone Porte (see his Instagram for the sexy selfie references) can even make a asymmetric black suit with stirrup pants sexy AF.

Aside from a collection that was practically a manifestation of a love letter to femininity, oozing romance and elegance, the big news story to come from this killer show was left until the designer himself took his final bow. Running – neigh sprinting – onto the runway Simone slipped into a largely nondescript hoodie, except it unapologetically revealed his new role, as a menswear designer for his namesake label. Boys will love it, girls will covert it and it will form another successful chapter in the career of a designer who only launched his brand in 2009.

However his reason for his latest venture is the most romantic thing of all, telling WWD the impetus behind the collection was, “I fell in love and I started to imagine that the Jacquemus man exists. I did Jacquemus women’s for my mother, and while I’m not saying that the men’s collection will be all about my boyfriends, it will still always be a love story.”

Dear Jacquemus we love you and Paris loves you.
