The original Saint Laurent muse lands her first ever campaign and Betty Catroux is just as iconic as ever…

The legendary Saint Laurent muse, Betty Catroux has just landed her first major campaign in her 70’s proving just like a fine wine some things only get better with age.

For those amongst us – aka us clueless millennials – who aren’t aware of Betty Catroux it turns out she is quite the icon so much so that Yves Saint Laurent himself used to call her his twin. The millennial term ‘goals’ has never seemed so apt.

Betty formed part of a group of girls who heavily influenced the designer including Iman and French actress, Catherine Deveuve. However Betty was the ringleader of this highly iconic group inspiring Saint Laurent’s androgynous attire.

The pair first met in gay bar (where all the best relationships are formed, naturally) in Paris back in 1967 and after quickly ditching her job at Chanel, the rest was fashion history as “Le Smoking” look was born.

Despite Betty continuously stating that she is “not interested in fashion,” the icon with a strong penchant for black leather hasn’t lost interest in the brand that made her. Catroux took to the FROW for Heidi Slimane’s first show for Saint Laurent and now with her first advertising campaign she is seen to embrace another new chapter in the house’s history.

Naturally the 72 year-old exhibits her style stables: black leather, striking blonde hair and dark sunglasses repackaged by Anthony Vaccarello. The campaign is equally as iconic as the woman herself as a result.
