Look, we’re obviously not saying that pink is on its way out. It isn’t. Pink is still a thing, and you can still expect to see pink ends on hair or wafts of fuchsia eyeshadow paired with lashings of mascara both across your Instagram feed and IRL over the next few months.
But there’s a new colour contending for the beauty crown at the moment. Peach – a bit like pink in the effect it has but warmer, more skin-like, less scary – has been subtly edging its way in for months, with celebs like Gigi Hadid, Iggy Azalea, and Georgia May Jagger adding peachy balayaged sections to their hair – and a host of beauty brands releasing peachy offerings.
There are two things you need to know about peach when it comes to make-up. First, it’ll make your skin glow. Seriously. No matter your skin tone, no matter how advanced your hangover is, peach equals health. This is a trick make-up artists have known about for years, with the legendary Val Garland telling us only last week that ‘peach is the secret to bringing skin to life.’
The second thing is that as a rule peachy hues look best when paired with glossy, healthy skin. Take your cue from longstanding fan of peach Kate Bosworth if you need guidance – she applies it to cheeks, lips, and eyes and then just keeps everything else pared back and always looks in the rudest health.
If you choose to opt for peach hair, take heart in the fact that it’s a bit warmer than pink and will therefore soften and illuminate features nicely. Uber colourist Nicola Clarke has seen a spike in requests for peach, citing it ‘one of those colours that’s really flattering and warming to skin.’
